Hi, I'm Amber.
Four years ago, I launched and bootstrapped Blingadvisor.com, a custom fine jewelry business from scratch into a six-figure company by providing a great customer experience, leveraging client referrals and drastically improving SEO. I hired and led a team consisting of a marketing director, SEO specialist, and developer and led the design and build of a custom website. During that time I stumbled across product management and realized that it defined a lot of what I was doing in my role and also played to a lot of my passions and natural talents. That was when I decided to pivot into product management and get my certification. I’m seeking a remote product management role to leverage my passion for creating a great customer experience while meeting business goals.
Projects
Aperture
B2C Photo Sharing App
App Overview: Aperture was the capstone project I created as part of the Product Management course with CareerFoundry.
The Problem: The number of active users had been in decline, as users interacted with the app less and less. Some had stopped using it altogether. The less users interacted with the app the fewer ads they would see and click on. This ultimately meant less advertising revenue for Aperture, and was starting to affect the company’s profit, or bottom line. I was tasked with increasing user interaction and revitalizing interest in my app.
What I Did: I applied product management principles to create a low fidelity prototype of Aperture which I tested on potential users to see how the design could be improved and then iterated based on the user feedback. Finally, I developed an MVP and launch plan including setting up product metrics.
MakeYourMaps
Mobile Travel Guide
App Overview: MakeYourMaps is the first project I created as part of the Product Management course with CareerFoundry.
The Ask: The senior product manager for MakeYourMaps asked me to take a look at the contributor feature on the MakeYourMaps product and come up with a plan to improve a couple of features for contributors.
What I Did: I followed the Product Management Process to create a low fidelity prototype of MakeYourMaps which I tested on potential users to see how the design could be improved.
Bling Advisor
Custom Jewelry E-Commerce
Product Overview: Blingadvisor.com was a personal project.
Context: My family had been in the B2B jewelry industry for over 30 years doing work for big name brands. We knew that the quality vs markup that many large chain jewelry stores offer wasn’t great and saw an opportunity in the market. The quality of our work and the price we offered was something that had already been drawing in a lot of private clients and so we decided to start our first B2C company.
The Outcome: I acted as co-founder and product manager on this product and increased revenue by 250% as well as collaborated in increasing our monthly website views from 100 monthly views to 1.5 million monthly views.
